Eine Kulturtechnik für ungewisse urbane Zukünfte
Öffentliches Symposium, organisiert von Prof. Sascha Roesler und Dr. Noa Levin, Professur für Theorie der Urbanisierung und städtische Umwelt, Accademia di Architettura, Mendrisio (USI)
Während die von Klimatolog:innen und Stadtplaner:innen verwendeten Prognose- und Simulationswerkzeuge immer ausgefeilter werden, wird die Zukunft der Städte immer ungewisser.
In diesem Zusammenhang untersucht diese Konferenz die Beziehungen zwischen städtischer und kultureller Produktion und die sich wandelnden Werkzeuge und Methoden zur Vorhersage und Simulation klimatischer Zukünfte. Sie fragt, wie die kulturelle Produktion auf Klimasimulationen reagieren und diese nutzen kann und welche Rolle Architektur, Kultur und Kunst bei der Vorstellung multipler klimatischer Zukünfte spielen. Obwohl sich Architektur und Stadtplanung wie nie zuvor der Zukunft zugewandt haben, mangelt es an Reflexion über diese Wende und über die Bedeutung von Simulationstechnologien und Klimaspekulationen für eine kulturelle Produktion, die die Klimakrise widerspiegelt.

Veranstalter:
Sascha Roesler ist ein Stadtforscher und Architekturtheoretiker, der an der Schnittstelle von Architektur, Ethnographie und Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung arbeitet. Er ist außerordentlicher Professor für Urbanisierungstheorie und städtische Umwelten an der Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio, Schweiz.
Noa Levin ist Philosophin und Kulturtheoretikerin und arbeitet an der Schnittstelle zwischen politischer Philosophie und Theorie, Geschichtsphilosophie und Philosophie des Raums und der Umwelt. Ihr Postdoc-Projekt an der Accademia di Architettura in Mendrisio, Schweiz, fokussiert auf die Politik des Klimawandels.

On Simulation
A Cultural Technique for Uncertain Urban Futures
While tools of prediction and simulation used by climatologists and planners are becoming more and more sophisticated, urban futures are increasingly uncertain. In this context, this conference examines the relations between urban and cultural production and the transforming tools and methods for forecasting and simulating climatic futures. It asks, how can cultural production respond to and use climate simulations, and what is the role of architecture, culture and art in envisioning multiple climatic futures? Although architecture and urban design have turned towards the future as never before, there is a dearth of reflection on this turn, and on the significance of simulation technologies and climate speculation for cultural production that reflects on the climate crisis.

Organizers:
Sascha Roesler is an urban scholar and architectural theorist, working at the intersection of architecture, ethnography, and science and technology studies. He is the Associate Professor for Theory of Urbanization and Urban Environments at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Switzerland.
Noa Levin is a philosopher and cultural theorist working at the intersection between political philosophy and theory, philosophy of history and philosophy of space and environment. Her postdoctoral project at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Switzerland, focuses on the politics of climate change.
